What Is TrueSnap?
TrueSnap is a desktop application that captures web pages as court-admissible digital evidence. Unlike a simple screenshot, TrueSnap creates a comprehensive evidence package that includes cryptographic verification, blockchain timestamps, and network forensics.
Getting Started
Step 1: Download and Install
TrueSnap is available for both macOS and Windows:
- Visit truesnap.ai and click Download
- Run the installer for your platform
- Launch TrueSnap — no account required for your first 5 free captures
Step 2: Sign In (Optional for Free Tier)
- Click Sign In in the app
- Authenticate with your Google account
- Your free 5 captures are immediately available
The Capture Process
Step 3: Enter the Target URL
- Paste or type the URL you want to capture into TrueSnap's address bar
- The built-in browser loads the page in a controlled environment:
- Developer Tools are completely disabled
- No browser extensions can interfere
- The application verifies its own integrity before each capture
Step 4: Navigate to the Exact Content
- Scroll to the specific content you need to preserve
- If the evidence is behind a login, sign in normally through TrueSnap's browser
- Expand any collapsed sections, load dynamic content, or open specific threads
Step 5: Click Capture
Press the Capture button. TrueSnap performs the following automatically:
- Visual capture — full-page screenshot of the visible content
- DOM snapshot — complete HTML source as rendered in the browser
- HAR recording — full network traffic log showing all server communications
- TLS certificate extraction — the website's SSL certificate chain
- Metadata collection — URL, timestamp, IP address, browser environment details
Step 6: Evidence Package Generation
After capture, TrueSnap generates a tamper-proof evidence package:
- SHA-256 hash is computed over the entire evidence bundle
- The hash is anchored to the Polygon blockchain for immutable timestamping
- A forensic certificate (PDF) is generated summarizing all verification data
- Everything is packaged into a single ZIP archive
What's Inside the Evidence Package
Your evidence package contains 6 files:
| File | Purpose |
|---|---|
screenshot.png | Visual capture of the page |
page.html | Complete DOM snapshot |
network.har | Full network traffic log |
certificate.json | TLS certificate chain data |
metadata.json | Capture environment details, hash, blockchain TX |
report.pdf | Human-readable forensic certificate |
Verification
Anyone can independently verify your evidence:
- Hash verification: Recompute SHA-256 of the package and compare with the blockchain record
- Blockchain check: Look up the transaction on Polygonscan to confirm the timestamp
- Certificate validation: Verify the TLS certificate was valid for the captured domain at the time of capture
Use Cases
- Online harassment/defamation — Preserve threatening messages before they're deleted
- Fraud documentation — Capture fake listings, scam websites, or misleading advertisements
- IP theft — Document unauthorized use of copyrighted content
- Contract disputes — Preserve terms, conditions, or communications that may change
- Regulatory compliance — Maintain evidence for investigations or audits
Pricing
- 5 free captures — No credit card required
- Credit packs — Purchase additional captures as needed
- No subscription — Credits don't expire
Tips for Best Results
- Capture immediately — Web content can be deleted or modified at any time
- Capture the full context — Include timestamps, usernames, and surrounding content
- Don't modify the page — Navigate and scroll only; don't interact in ways that change content
- Store packages securely — Keep evidence packages on reliable storage with backups
- Capture multiple pages if needed — Each relevant page should be its own capture
